Hi there Fumies,
Last week the Libertine crew had their Winter 2018 showcase. One of the fragrances I fell madly in love with is last years release from Les Liquides Imaginaries. Starting with the fabulous colour of the juice, the way the bottle feels in your hand and the way it would look on my dressing table. Already I wanted to like it but you know how that so often goes. So, putting a very tight rein on my expectations I picked it up and gave myself a spritz. I’m hoping Fleuve Tendre will be my next big budget splurge.

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Black pepper, cardamom, cumin, saffron, nutmeg, coriander, mandarin orange
Heart: Petalia, geranium, rose water, musk, animal notes
Base: Vetiver, patchouli, incense, civet, musk, tonka bean, suede
So you know, Fleuve Tendre is not an aquatic, though there are some water references.
Cracked black pepper leads with a herbal citrus, like torn orange leaves. It isn’t long before the spices come through and warm the pepper up and it’s a bit like throwing the herbs and spices into hot oil in preparation for cooking. It’s an attention grabbing opening and I really like it. Very of the modern perfumery niche idea but much more deftly handled and without some of the more ubiquitous tropes. The saffron is a background note, this little wood and no oud.
As Fleuve Tendre progresses the citrus grabs the geranium and rose to bring them forward, together they make an interesting and unusual partnership, It’s a lovely crisp idea and the other notes playing chorus seem to join together so that these three can be highlighted.
As the base makes itself known my nose finds it very hard to pick out distinct notes but a smooth, waxy patchouli and unlit incense seem to court the spotlight over an amorphous sweet, resinous, lightly sweaty armpit.
