Hi there perfumed Peeps,
I like Pierre Guillaume’s fragrances. He has a way with notes that is deft and sophisticated. He somehow even manages to make the ultra sweet feel plush, no mean feat. Considering that Intrigant Patchouli is a 2005 release I am surprised that before I bought this decant at Surrender To Chance that I’d not even heard about it. The patchoulis that have caught my nose and made me put down cash so far have been CHANEL Coromandel and DIOR Patchouli Imperial.

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Ginger, sandalwood, amber, patchouli, musk, benzoin
Ginger gives creamy sandalwood and clean, modern patchouli a very lilting zing. The note list doesn’t mention it but my nose is telling me there are some peppers involved too, maybe pink? If you like your patchouli rough or head shop then don’t even think of picking up Intrigant Patchouli, you will be bored senseless. When you feel like wearing a modern clean patchouli so smooth it could be oiled then I think you’ll find this is a good choice.
Not just a modern clean patchouli, we do get a ride from zingy opening, creamy heart that becomes a lightly plastic patchouli. As the fragrance progresses it gets even smoother with a very slight animalic wash under the rest. This softly animal, not furry but more like and area an animal has slept, makes the dry down more interesting. Mixing as it does with the resins it becomes a feral sweetness riding just below attention levels till you sniff it close.
Of all the patchoulis I’ve tried this is the most accessible, yet it never feels mainstream of safe. I’m hoping that hardcore perfumistas don’t ignore it because it’s so likeable and wearable.
